Pine Valley Border Agents Seize 13 Pounds of Meth

On June 8, 2025, U.S. Border Patrol agents at the Interstate 8 immigration checkpoint in Pine Valley, California, intercepted a U.S. citizen attempting to smuggle approximately 13 pounds of methamphetamine. The suspect was apprehended after a safety pat down revealed six plastic-wrapped bundles strapped to his back and ankles.

The incident occurred around 11:55 a.m. when agents referred a blue coupe for secondary inspection. Field testing confirmed the contents of the bundles as methamphetamine. The narcotics and the vehicle were seized, and the suspect was handed over to the Drug Enforcement Administration for further investigation and prosecution.

The case has been referred for federal prosecution under 21 USC 844 (possession of a controlled substance) and 21 USC 841 (possession with intent to distribute). The vehicle, suspected of being used as a smuggling conveyance, was also seized.

“This is another great example of the outstanding work that the men and women of the Campo Border Patrol Station do every day to secure our border and make our communities safe,” said Campo Station Patrol Agent in Charge Michael W. Davis.

This fiscal year, the San Diego Sector has already seized 2,538 pounds of methamphetamine, along with thousands of pounds of other drugs. CBP reports that meth seizures nationwide rose by 30% in April 2025 compared to the previous month, and total seizures of all major narcotics increased 15%.

The incident is part of broader efforts by CBP to disrupt drug trafficking along the southwest border.
