Pharr Bridge Officers Seize $6.7M in Meth Hidden Among Tomatillos

On June 10, U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers at the Pharr International Bridge cargo facility intercepted a major methamphetamine shipment worth approximately $6,740,100. The narcotics were hidden within a commercial load declared as tomatillos.

CBP officers assigned to the cargo facility stopped a tractor-trailer entering from Mexico for a secondary inspection. Using non-intrusive imaging equipment and a canine unit, officers uncovered 166 packages of alleged methamphetamine. The total weight of the seized narcotics was 753.98 pounds.

Port Director Carlos Rodriguez praised the officers’ vigilance, stating, “The cargo environment continues to be a top choice for trafficking organizations, but our CBP officers along with our tools and technology are a force to be reckoned with.”

The methamphetamine and tractor-trailer were seized by CBP as part of the agency’s ongoing commitment to disrupting cross-border drug trafficking. The incident highlights the persistent use of commercial shipments by drug cartels and the effectiveness of CBP’s enforcement methods.
