Large Cocaine Seizure at Presidio Port: CBP Officers Intercept 27 Pounds

PRESIDIO, TEXAS – U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers at the Presidio port of entry intercepted a significant drug shipment on March 2, seizing 27 pounds of cocaine concealed within a vehicle. The driver, a 24-year-old U.S. citizen, was taken into custody following the discovery.

The smuggling attempt was foiled around 4 p.m. when a 2018 Nissan Rogue, driven by a lone male, entered the port from Mexico. CBP officers selected the vehicle for a secondary inspection as part of their layered enforcement strategy.

During the examination, officers located multiple bundles of cocaine hidden within the floorboard compartment. A trained CBP narcotics detection dog confirmed the presence of illicit substances, and a non-intrusive scan revealed irregularities in the vehicle’s structure. Officers uncovered 10 tightly packed cocaine-filled bundles from the hidden compartment.

“CBP officers employ multiple tools and techniques to identify and stop drug smugglers,” said CBP Presidio Port Director Benito Reyes Jr. “This layered enforcement approach allows CBP to quickly separate legitimate trade and travel from those who attempt to violate the laws of our nation and stop the flow of drugs from entering our nation.”

Following the seizure, CBP officers arrested the driver and transferred him to Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) special agents. He now faces federal charges linked to the failed smuggling attempt.

This incident highlights CBP’s relentless efforts to prevent drug traffickers from exploiting U.S. borders and reinforces the agency’s commitment to national security.
