Government agents seize fentanyl, cash, and drug equipment from Stamford home after major Connecticut drug bust involving Darius Gamble.

Fentanyl Trafficking in Connecticut Lands Stamford Man in Prison

Fentanyl trafficking in Connecticut continues to pose a deadly threat, as a Stamford man was handed a lengthy prison sentence this week for distributing large quantities of the potent synthetic drug.

Darius Gamble, 39, known on the streets as “Rell,” was sentenced on Tuesday in a New Haven federal courtroom to 80 months in prison. Also, with an additional four years of supervised release. His sentencing marks the end of a months-long investigation into his drug activities, which authorities say were anything but small-scale.

The Stamford Police Department and DEA’s Bridgeport Task Force began investigating Gamble’s activities back in April 2024. Hence, from April to September 2024, attending police officers conducted four controlled purchases of fentanyl. These purchases were conducted to build a case against him.

On September 12, 2024, agents executed a search warrant at Gamble’s residence on Nobile Street. Shockingly, inside, they discovered 42 grams of fentanyl. A kilogram press, a respirator mask, various narcotics packaging tools, and over $31,000 in cash were also found. Therefore the equipment and seized funds painted a clear picture: this wasn’t personal use—it was distribution at scale.

This case illustrates, as U.S. Attorney David Sullivan noted, the collaboration between federal and local law enforcement to curb the trafficking of fentanyl in Connecticut. This collaboration is critical as the state continues to face unprecedented overdose rates. The prevalence of fentanyl, which is far more potent than heroin, continues to contribute to the unprecedented drug fatalities in the area.

This sentence signifies a major turning point in Gamble’s life. For Stamford and its bordering communities, it signifies the extensive work needed to prevent fentanyl from being a problem in the area. It truly highlights the risks traffickers are caught facing the consequences.
