CBP officers intercepted $6.2 million worth of cocaine at the Pharr International Bridge cargo facility, preventing a significant drug shipment from reaching U.S. streets. The seizure took place on March 5 when officers selected a commercial tractor-trailer hauling plastic rolls for further inspection.
Utilizing non-intrusive scanning technology and a canine unit, officers detected suspicious activity within the shipment. A physical search of the truck revealed 150 packages of cocaine weighing 470.68 pounds concealed within the plastic rolls. The contraband was seized, stopping yet another major smuggling attempt at a key border crossing.
Port Director Carlos Rodriguez emphasized the significance of such operations, stating that large drug seizures highlight both the ongoing threat of narcotics smuggling and the effectiveness of CBP officers in identifying and intercepting illicit shipments.
Following the discovery, CBP handed over the driver, truck, and seized narcotics to the Texas Department of Public Safety. Authorities have placed the suspect under arrest and launched a criminal investigation into the smuggling attempt.
This successful interception reinforces the crucial role of border enforcement in disrupting international drug trafficking networks and preventing dangerous narcotics from entering the United States.
